Roborock S5 vs S6: My Unbiased opinion

Roborock S5 vs. S6 is the comparison of the two most popular and most-advanced Roborock vacuums. The S5 and S6 models were designed with innovative techs, and they support many advanced features for cleaning and mopping.

Actually, it was the Roborock S5 that made Roborock vacuums so popular because it outperformed its alternatives and other high-end robot vacuums in the market. The S6 model is the successor of Roborock S5; apparently, it comes with more advanced features and techs, plus a higher price tag. Considering that Roborock S6 is the new model, it should be better for the S5, right? But a lot of people still prefer Roborock S5, and so, this article is going to compare these two Roborock vacuums in detail.

Roborock S5 vs S6: Overview

We will start with the newer version, which is the Roborock S6. The S6 model comes with a few upgrades to Roborock S5.

The Roborock S6 can save up to three maps, and it supports selective room cleaning. This robovac can function for a very long time – up to 180 minutes or more, depending on the working mode. It is quieter than the S5 and can automatically return to the docking station if the battery runs down while still performing a task.

Roborock equipped this vacuum with tangle-free brushes and HEPA filters. Also, Roborock S6 comes with a 480ml dustbin and a silicone side brush. Using the “Mi mobile app,” you can set up virtual no-go zones to restrict the movement of this robovac while it is working. When the Roborock S6 approaches a carpet, it automatically switches to “carpet mode” and makes use of its maximum suction power to take out dirt from the carpet.

This model can climb 0.8-inch inclines, as well as comes with a cliff detector sensor that protects it from falling off the stairs. Roborock S6 works with the ARM Allwinner R16 Quad-Core processor; it is quite faster than the S5 and S5 max.

Roborock S5 can only store one map, unlike the S5 max and S6 that can store up to three (3).

More so, this robovac supports automatic docking. Old robovacs require a lot of manual actions, including taking them to the dock station recharge and bringing them back to continue cleaning. However, the Roborock S5 can recharge itself and resume cleaning without any human intervention.  The battery on Roborock S5 lasts for quite long; on balanced mode, the bot can clean for up to 2 hours.

Roborock S5 vs S6: Similarities

There are quite a lot of similarities between these two robot vacuums.

Design and Build

Both the Roborock S6 and S5 have the same body design and build. The laser navigation system stayed on top, and the water tank, battery, brushes, and other components stayed at the same location on both models.

HEPA Filtration System and Suction

Roborock S6 and S5 come with the same washable E-11 HEPA filter. Also, the two bots’ use up to 2000pa suction power to remove dirt on thick surfaces.

Battery and Docking

It takes up to 5 hours for Roborock S5 to charge fully. The S6 model also charged for 5 hours. Both robovacs come with a 5000maH battery.

Sweeping and Mopping

Either of the models you choose has the capability of sweeping and mopping your room floor. They are both 2-in-one smart home cleaners.

Virtual “No-Go” Zones

Using the Mi mobile app, you can set virtual “no-go” zones to restrict either the S6 or S5 from cleaning certain corners in the room.

Configuration and setup

Both vacuums functions with your home Wi-Fi. They require a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network to function as expected. Also, the setup doesn’t take time; simply install the mobile on your smartphone. The app is available for Android and iOS users.

After the initial setup, either of this bot will now map the house and create a map, which you can access on the app.

Inasmuch as there are lots of similarities between these two robovacs, they also have lots of differences. Now, here is the actual comparison of Roborock S6 vs. Roborock S5.

Performance

Both models work with the number of modes and suction levels. However, the S6 model is faster and delivers a cleaner surface than the S5.

Cleaning pattern

Roborock S5 follows a z-cleaning pattern, while the S6 model follows a straight route to perform a cleaning. The cleaning pattern followed by Roborock S6 is uniform and more efficient than the S5.

Mapping and Navigation

While both models come with the same navigation and mapping system, the S6 model was fine-tuned to save up to 3 floor maps, but S5 can only save just 1.

Recharging and Resuming

If any of this robot vacuum is cleaning and the battery runs down to 20% or less when it has not completed the task, it will automatically find its way to the dock station to recharge. But the difference is this – Roborock S5 will charge until the battery gets to 100% before it will resume cleaning. On the other hand, Roborock S6 will simply recharge up to 80% and return back to work.

Mopping

Both models can sweep and mop the floor. Also, you will have to attach the mop cloth and fill the water tank with a cleaning agent or water. However, the difference is this – you can control the amount of water that drops from the water tank unto the mopping cloth on Roborock S6, but this feature is not available on the S5.

Selective home cleaning

Thus far, only the Roborock S6 and S5 max support selective room cleaning. The Roborock S5 doesn’t support this feature. Selective room cleaning means that you can schedule the bot to clean different rooms at different times. You can specify the rooms via the app.

Noise level

Apparently, there is no robo-vac that is totally quiet; they all make noise when they’re cleaning or mopping. However, some make lesser noise. Regarding the Roborock vacuums – S6 and S5 – the S6 is quieter than the S5 in all modes.

Between Roborock S5 vs S6, which one is best for you?

Although the S6 model outperforms the S5 model in virtually all ramifications, if you’re on a budget, the S5 is still a great choice. One shouldn’t expect less from a newer version or model of a particular product; thus, it is no rocket science that the Roborock S6 wins over Roborock S5.
